Hisamoto Koichi was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1953 and began to pot when he was 22 years old, as an apprentice to the potter, Higashibara san. Initially his work was glaze like that of his sensei.

He trained with Shimamura Hikaru from 1981 when he began to make Bizen ware and built his own noborigama in 1988. More recently he has set up a new pottery and kiln, which he calls “Bizengama”. This wood-fired chawan has Hisamoto san’s mark inside the foot-ring and doesn’t appear to have been used.
