Isezaki Mitsuru is the elder brother of the current Bizen Living National Treasure, Isezaki Jun, and in 1998 was made an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Okayama Prefecture. Mitsuru always wood fires using split pine in either his tunnel kiln (anagama) or climbing kiln (noborigama). In fact it was the Isezaki family, who were instrumental in making the anagama the current kiln of choice in the Bizen area. This yunomi is typical of his austere aesthetic approach.
