Kaneshige Tohiro is one of the current potters from this family, which was one of the original six designated as o-sakunin (honourable craftsman) in Bizen, by the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1582 or 1583. Also of note is that Kaneshige Toyo was the first Bizen National Living Treasure when that honour was bestowed upon him in 1956.

This set comprises of the tokkuri, which has the impressed seal mark for what I believe is the kiln that Kaneshige Toyo himself used, together with the two guinomi that have Kaneshige Tohiro’s full signature. They come with the signed box that has a sliding lid and separate compartments for each item.
