Maeshima Goichiro was born in 1926 and I believe that this chawan was made in the 1980s. The chawan exhibits the multicoloured appearance (higawari) as well as the goma produced by the pine ash from the wood kiln reacting with the clay, both of which are typical of Bizen wares. I am not sure if Maeshima is still living but I know that he had a number of solo exhibitions in Japan during his career with the last one that I can find taking place in Osaka in 2005.

The chawan has the incised mark of the potter within the foot ring (shown to the left) and it comes with its own signed wooden box.
