Chun Ilkun was born in Kyoto in 1947. From 1966 to1971 he studied drawing at Osaka City

Institute of Art but in the early 1970s began to visit potteries. He started his own pottery workshop in 1975 and had his first solo exhibition at Hirakata Civic Hall in 1980. In 1988 he moved to Ichishi Mie where he not only built his own workshop and three kilns but also the house in which he lived. Over the years he had more than 100 exhibitions in Japan and Korea but sadly passed away in November 2011 due to a sudden heart attack.

 

This lidded box is very much in the Korean style, which can be explained by the fact that, although born in Japan and living there all of his life, both of his parents were from Korea. His impressed seal can be seen at the centre of the base, as shown in the last image above.
