Komatsu Ken began an apprenticeship in Hagi in 1981. He became independent in 1989 when he built his own kiln and opened his Furaibo pottery. Two years later he built a climbing kiln in Fukui, Hagi and has continued to pot there ever since. This teabowl is a typical product of Hagi and has the traditional “wari kodai” (cut foot ring). Komatsu’s impressed seal is to be seen inside the foot ring in the last picture (in the unglazed area towards the bottom).
