Yamane Seigan was born in 1952 and is a member of the Hagi Association of Ceramic Artists. He is self taught and works out of the Kousaian Kiln, which he opened in 1987.

This large chawan has been glazed with a complicated mix of glazes that has produced a number of different colours within the basic pale glaze on the bowl of the chawan. It has the foot ring cut in three places (wari-kodai = cut foot) and the bowl has been altered after throwing as well. The three marks on the foot are residues of the shells on which it was placed in the kiln.

It is unused and was made around 10 years ago and comes with the wooden box with the inscription, as shown, as well as a stamped cloth.
