I have little
information about the artist, Ichikawa Toshimitsu. However, I believe that this white
shino glazed teabowl is an example of Mino ware. This has been made in the
Tajimi and Toki regions in Gifu Prefecture since the late 16th century. The
wares are made from a fine local clay, which is easy worked and is low in
iron. The impressed potter’s seal is to be found on the unglazed area near to
the foot ring but it rather small so is difficult to pick out in the image.
