Kawai Tadashi was born in Kyoto in 1926 and is the eldest son of the famous Sosaku Hanga print maker turned potter, Unosuke Kawai. This bowl appears to be unused but from the box seems likely to be 30 or 40 years old. The box is marked and the potter’s seal is impressed just outside the foot ring on the left (I did try and get a close up image of the seal but because of the colour of the stoneware body this wasn’t possible, although it can be seen with the eye). Kawai san died in 2002.
