Morioka Kasho
was born in Kyoto in 1937 and was the third generation of his family to hold that title. He was a proficient potter in many styles and had kilns not only in Kyoto and Shigaraki but made porcelain in Jingdezhen, China. In 2005 a major retrospective of his fifty year career as a potter was held in Tokyo and he appears to have died a couple of years later. This teabowl was made around 1990 in a style reminiscent of Hagi ware and was decorated with the pilgrims of Shikoku by his second daughter, Aki. It comes with a high grade box that has his signature and seal and the chawan has an impressed mark just outside the foot ring.
