Morisawa Shozo
is a Kutani potter from Ishikawa Prefecture and this deep purple and yellow glazed chawan was made around 30 years ago and does not appear to have been used. Because of the shiny surface it proved very difficult to photograph so I hope that the images above are adequate. You will note that the chawan is signed within the foot ring and also on the outside of the box lid, which also has Morisawa’s seal. Inside the lid there is an inscription, as shown, and what appears to be the original price of 15,000 yen, which would equate to £106.75 at current exchange rate.
