Okuda Eizan was born in 1944 and began potting with his father in Shigaraki in 1963. In 1992 he was designated as a Shigaraki Traditional Craftsman by the Japanese government and has had numerous solo exhibitions in Japan, as well as exhibiting and demonstrating in the USA. In 2012 he was made an Important Human Cultural Treasure of Koga City. This vase does appear to have been used but has no damage or restoration.
