Shibata Takuro began potting in 1996 when he moved to Shigaraki. However the sheer quality of the work that Takuro produces belies this relative inexperience. His main teacher and inspiration has been the potter, Kato Hajimu, who is also represented on this site. In 1999 Takuro set up his own studio and kiln in Shigaraki and this yunomi was made there towards the end of 2004. The yunomi not only has the potter’s seal but also “Takuro” incised into the body.

Since the summer of 2005 Takuro has been based in
North Carolina, USA where he lives and works with his wife and fellow potter, Hitomi, and their son, Ken.
