Takahashi Shunsai was born in Shigaraki in 1927 into one of the families that have kept the Shigaraki pottery tradition alive, especially from the 1940s onwards. His father was Takahashi Rakusai III and Shunsai was his second son. During his lifetime his work was highly regarded so much so that he was made an Intangible Cultural Asset of Shiga Prefecture. He died in 2011.

The chawan appears to have been made around 35 years old and has no damage or restoration like all other items on this website. It comes in the box above, together with cleaning cloth with his seal and information in Japanese.
