Miscellaneous Pottery YAMAZAWA Shoko: Irabo chawan in a signed wooden box.

SOLD but to see pots that are available click HERE

Yamazawa Shoko was born in 1926 and was active as a potter in Kyoto for many years. This teabowl would appear to be around 40 years old so I am not sure if he is still working or indeed still alive. The bowl may well have been used but there is little sign of this and there is no damage or restoration. The Irabo glaze used on this chawan is a typical glaze of Kyoto potteries but the incised decoration, including characters from his signature on the front of the bowl, is less typical. Also note that there is what I assume to be an appraisal of the chawan inside the lid.
